Test Drilling Begins Under Big Dig Tunnels
BOSTON (CBS) - Big Dig officials are digging holes to see how much soil and clay has settled under two of the project's tunnels and to determine whether repairs need to be made.
The concern is there might be a void underneath two I-90 Connector Tunnels, caused by previously frozen soil and clay that is now thawing.

Crews will drill four 135-foot deep test borings to see what's going on down there.
Highway administrator Frank DePaola says the tunnels are safe.
The work will cost $168,000 and take about another month to complete.
