Source: Terry Francona Interviews With Cardinals
BOSTON (CBS) - Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona interviewed with the St. Louis Cardinals about their vacant managerial position on Tuesday, a major league source told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
Francona is vying to replace Tony La Russa, who had a 16-year run managing in St. Louis but retired after winning his third World Series title (2nd with the Cardinals) last month.
With the Red Sox, Francona won two World Series titles in his eight years, but managed the team through the worst September collapse in the history of baseball this past season.
The Cardinals have already interviewed former catcher Mike Matheny, and are also reportedly interested in talking Joe McEwing and Ryne Sandberg about their managerial opening.
