Temperature Tracker: Boston Hits 103, Probably Won't Make All-Time High
BOSTON (CBS) - Friday was a historic day in Boston weather, just not the kind of historic that many of us would like.
It was the hottest day in Boston in 85 years and tied for the second-hottest day ever recorded in the city.

The record as it stands now is 104 degrees way back on July 4th, 1911, 100 years ago.
The second hottest day ever recorded was 103 degrees on this very date back in 1926, 85 years ago. Today, we have managed to tie that. At 3:52 pm, the thermometer crept up to 103.

Even 100 degrees is a fairly rare phenomenon here in Boston, but we reached easily reached that today at 1:22 p.m.
We average about one 100-degree day every five years and have now done it 25 times in our recorded history.
Before today, the last time we hit 100 degrees was just last year on July 6.
As if the heat wasn't enough, the humidity is also a factor today.
Dew points in the low 70's will drive heat index values well over 105 degrees, prompting an Excessive Heat Warning for Boston and the nearby suburbs.
