Temp Swings...

I went out to Upton to visit with the 2nd graders at Memorial Elementary School today and noticed that the ice on all the lakes and ponds heading out to Upton had some beautiful ice on them...all the snow is gone and it looked like glass...very tempting to skate.  Any of you skate on the local ponds???  Any insight as to the quality of the ice?  Safety of it too???

Generall a quiet first week of March.  The most exciting event will likely be tomorrow afternoon's coldfrontal passage which will likely be interesting as moderating surface temps and an upper level shortwave will create an unstable lower atmosphere...unstable enough for a line of rain / snow showers or squalls to erupt on it as it passes through later in the afternoon.  Winds will also be whipping around with gusts out of the SW up to 40 mph and out of the NW in the wake of the front too.

The weekend still looks very Spring-like as ridging at the surface and aloft will promote warming and temps should reach 50, maybe even 60 on Sunday!  With the strong offshore ridge we think the slower EURO is the way to go with regard to the next storm and subsequent cooldown.
