Telephone Pole Crashes Into Fitchburg Home

FITCHBURG (CBS) -- A Fitchburg woman says an angel was watching over her family this Christmas after a utility pole came smashing through their living room.

"I kept screaming, but the pole didn't stop," Kwajalein Gibbs said.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.

On Monday, after the snow storm, a Unitil truck transporting a utility pole slid down the hill, and jackknifed into their home. Part of the utility pole was outside the home, the other half was eight feet in.

"It came through the wall hit the stair way and ended up eight feet here," Gibbs said. The pole destroyed their outside wall and stair wall.

The pole came just a few feet away from hitting Kwajalein and her husband. "My daughter was upstairs and if that had collapsed she would've come down too," Gibbs said.

Kwajalein said she knows God was watching over her.

"It could've been worse that's why I am thanking God that no one got hurt," Gibbs said.

Unitil says it is working closely with the family to assure repairs to the home are made as quickly as possible.
