Driver Arrested In Dorchester Hit-And-Run That Killed Teen
DORCHESTER (CBS) – A driver has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that killed a teenage boy in Dorchester.
The teen was riding a bike near the intersection of Talbot and New England Avenues around 10 p.m. Tuesday when two vehicles crashed. He was struck by one or both of the cars and later died.
A family friend identified him Wednesday afternoon as 18-year-old Fritz Philogene, a sophomore at West Roxbury High School.
Boston Police said one driver, 27-year-old Gregory McCoy of Dorchester, ran off, but was later captured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
"I saw a whole bunch of blood on the left side of his arms and his friends came round were like yo bro, yo bro, what did you do," one witness told WBZ-TV.
A 33-year-old Dorchester man was also hurt in the collision.
McCoy is now charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, one count of motor vehicular homicide, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
The intersection was shut down for hours overnight as police sifted through debris scattered on the streets.
Cheline Garcia and Ramona Killings were part of a group of people in the neighborhood who tried to save Philogene with CPR.
"I kept going and going and going and going and he came back for a little bit and then he just died, that was it," Killings told WBZ-TV.
According to court records, McCoy is homeless with a lengthy criminal record. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
