Teen Drowns In Pool At Attleboro Apartment Complex

ATTLEBORO (CBS) – A 17-year-old boy drowned in an indoor pool in Attleboro Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Ibrahim Iqbal of Brooklyn, New York was swimming in the deep end of the pool at the Crystal Village Apartment Complex with relatives when he became unresponsive.

His cousin shouted for help and a resident of the apartment complex and a member of the management staff got him out of the water and began to perform CPR.

Dan Beshers was waiting for his son at a nearby bus stop when he heard the woman screaming for help.

"It immediately clicks, there's a pool in that building, as a parent you always have that in the back of your head," said Beshers who lives at the apartment complex.

He raced to the pool and said the boy was at the bottom of the deep end.

"Kicked off my shoes jumped in and brought him to the surface," said Beshers.

"She kept screaming, 'Is he breathing? He's breathing, right?' I didn't know what to say," said Besher. "He was not in any way responsive, but his family was right there. You can't give up."

Iqbal was visiting his cousin who lives at the complex. He was rushed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The teen's family arrived from Brooklyn late Wednesday night. They said his death was a great tragedy and Iqbal was a good swimmer.

Police say the death appears to be accidental.
