Teen Drowned In Georgetown Pond Identified
GEORGETOWN (AP) — A teenager has drowned while swimming in a Georgetown pond.
Authorities on Sunday identified the victim as 17-year-old Lawrence resident Dewel Ortiz.
Police responded to Pentucket Pond near the American Legion Park just before 3 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing swimmer. Rescue crews pulled Ortiz's body from about 15 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's unclear whether a lifeguard was on duty at the time.
The investigation into the drowning is ongoing.
