1 Hurt, 2 Arrested In Taunton Apartment Complex Shooting
TAUNTON (CBS) -- A shooting at a Taunton apartment complex left one person injured and two others under arrest Wednesday night, prompting a large police response.
Taunton Police were called to Country Street around 11 p.m. for a report of shots fired between two cars near the Taunton Woods apartment complex.
They said a witness reported two dark-colored sedans were racing through the parking lot. Officers found a cell phone, a bloodied towel, and several bullet casings in that lot.
A car with a bullet hole in its windshield was towed from the scene.
Initially, police said they didn't find any suspects or victims--but after hearing noises coming from behind the apartment complex, they found 22-year-old Purvis Cole of New Bedford suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, along with 19-year-old Cortney Silveira of Taunton, who was uninjured.
Cole was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries--but police said he was disruptive and uncooperative in the emergency room, and left against the advice of doctors.
Then, police said they saw two men trying to enter a car in front of the complex that matched the description of the dark sedan mentioned in the original call.
They caught one of them, a juvenile, and then found the second with the help of a Massachusetts State Police Air Wing helicopter.
That second suspect was identified as Ozair Gomez, 28, of Taunton. He and the juvenile are both charged with drug possession with intent to distribute and disorderly conduct. In addition, the juvenile faces charges a witness intimidation charge; Gomez faces additional charges of disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
Taunton Police are still trying to identify the shooters, and said all involved have refused to cooperate with the investigation.
