Parents Allegedly Overdose With Child In Car; Grandmother Gets Custody
TAUNTON (CBS) -- Lori Johnson is thankful her two-year-old grandson, Domani, is safe.
Police say her daughter, 28-year-old Lynette Slocomb, and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Jeffrey Silva, were arrested after overdosing on heroin with their baby in the backseat of a car.
Officers found the two by the Star Food Mart in Taunton.
"She's my child and I love my child, but she's wrong and I hope she learns from this experience," Lori Johsnon said. "I just know it was an overdose. They were taken to the hospital and they had Narcan."
The pair allegedly drove around with Domani in the car while they were high.
"They had purchased and injected the heroin while the child was in the car," Taunton Police Lt. Paul Roderick said.
Fortunately, Domani was found safe and uninjured in the car.
"It's a tough situation I don't wish this on anyone. My biggest fear is getting the phone call that my daughter has passed away. When I heard my grandson was in the car it upset me even more," Johnson said.
Both Slocomb and Silva will be in court on Monday morning.
DCF has been contacted, police say, and right now Lori Johnson has physical custody of her grandchild.
