Taunton Gas Station Owner's Secret To Keeping Prices Low

TAUNTON (CBS) - Drivers are doing a double take on route 44 in Taunton when they pass Prestige gas station and car wash.

The price per gallon for gas was lowered to $3.69, and if drivers get a car wash it drops to $3.39 a gallon.

Owner Ronen Drory says he's selling gas at wholesale to customers. "We're trying our best to help everybody in a tough time now," he said.

He's still a businessman with a motive. Drory says he can make his money on car washes, and that business is now up 50 percent because of the low gas price. Driver James Lukasewski says the savings are substantial. "It's at least $40 for a fill-up," he said.

"Forty for this and if I went someplace else it would be $75 or $80." With gas prices in Massachusetts hovering around $4.00 a gallon, $3.69 is a price that seems dream-like.

Drory says he buys Mobil oil, but as an independent station owner, doesn't pay to advertise the name. His customers are only reading numbers. "I saved $20. It goes toward food," said one driving filling up.

Drory says he'll keep his prices low as the price for a barrel of oil continues to drop.
