Taunton Flower Shop Closing Its Doors After 95 Years

TAUNTON (CBS) - It's been a fixture in downtown Taunton for 95 years, but now Olson's Home of Flowers is shutting its doors.

Olson's Home of Flowers has been operating just off the Taunton Green since 1916, but it will be closing Friday.

Olson's has provided flowers for weddings, funerals and parties for years, but now competition from the internet, roadside stands and even supermarkets has cut into their business.

"Just due to the economy, the cost of keeping it open over what's coming in, it's just not enough to substaintiate it anymore today," said Sharon Olson, the owner.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports.

Sharon Olson has run the flower shop herself since her husband passed away six years ago. The flower shop was started by her husband's grandparents.

Olson said her plan was to try and keep going for five more years, when the business would be a full 100 years old, but she said it just didn't work out.

"To all of our customers, we thank them and we will miss them," said Olson.
