Dog Uninjured After 25-Foot Fall Down Taunton Well
TAUNTON (CBS) – Firefighters rescued a dog that fell 25 feet down a well in Taunton Tuesday morning.
The dog's owners called the fire department after their Goldendoodle, Buddy, went missing. They worried that Buddy was stolen from their Tremont Street yard, but noticed that the tire and wooden cover that usually rests on top of their well was missing.
They looked down and saw that the dog had fallen in.
"When I first looked at him I was panicking," said John Higgins.
A ladder belt was used as a harness to secure the dog, and firefighter Jared Jackson climbed down a ladder and into the well to retrieve Buddy.
Fire officials said that remarkably, the dog was not injured.
"Poor thing looked like he was sad being down there. They said he was there all night so I kind of felt bad for him," firefighter Jared Jackson said.
The dog's owners were relieved the animal was safe after searching throughout the night for him.
"I was worried and my sister was crying. We didn't know what to do. We were all upset. It was scary. We were just lucky to have them get the dog out of the hole," said Curtis Higgins.
