Tastes of Winter!

I just saw it...my first snowflake of the season...OK I've seen enough! Just kidding...it's kind of a neat scene out there and some of the pics that are on this site here are beautiful. This will be a low impact snowstorm...the kind we like and rarely get but because it is so early in the season and the ground and pavement are still so warm roads will just be wet. Most of the accumulation will be found on the grass or on decks where a coating of snow will be seen in the Boston area. But locations well NW of Boston, where the temp is a little colder and it's been snowing a little longer will pick up 1-3". I used the plural form of  taste in the title for a reason...this will not be the only chance for snow this week...I've been talking about the weekend potential since Monday and signs are pointing to a larger impact at this time.

Watch Todd's forecast

A much stronger storm will spread rain and snow into the region midday on Saturday and the precip will eventually become all snow by the evening with the potential for slightly higher accumulations that will lead to more of an impact. This is not locked in but most signs are pointing to an early season nor'easter! Have a good night and enjoy the first flakes because in a couple of months I'm sure we'll all be cursing them!

My hunch from earlier in the week is looking more  likely...the North American models were  getting confused with the tropical system in the Caribbean which was leading to a less amplified pattern for the weekend.  Well, it seems they've cleared up their confusion and have latched  on to a potent vort max that strengthens as it moves East, goes negative and cuts-off right over us thanks to intense lift generated by a 300mb  jet couplet.  This is looking more and more like a potent nor'easter we even have a cold high to the north in a perfect spot for cold air drainage!
