Tajon Buchanan Transferred To Club Brugge; Will Finish Out 2021 Season With Revolution
BOSTON (CBS) -- Revolution fans are going to have to soak up all the Tajon Buchanan they can this year. The New England winger is heading overseas at the end of the season.
Rumors have been circulating that Buchanan would find a home in Europe since he was a standout for the Canadian National Team during the Gold Cup. His transfer became official Tuesday, as the Revolution announced that Buchanan has been transferred to Club Brugge in Belgium.
Buchanan will finish out the season with New England before making his move overseas.
"I am excited to take this next step in my career and am grateful for the New England Revolution for giving me the opportunity to grow as a player and showcase my abilities." Buchanan said in the team's release. "I will continue to give my all to the Revolution this season and hope to end my time in MLS by lifting a trophy with my teammates."
"Tajon has grown tremendously during his time in New England and has earned this opportunity to prove himself at the highest levels in Europe with this Champions League club" said Sporting Director & Head Coach Bruce Arena. "We are pleased to facilitate this move for Tajon as he takes the next step in his professional journey. We look forward to his continued contributions with the Revolution as we compete for a championship this season."
New England will receive $7 million for Buchanan's transfer, according to Sam Stejskal of The Athletic. The club will also retain a percentage of Buchanan's future sell-on rights.
Buchanan is currently in Los Angeles for MLS All-Star festivities, one of four New England Revolution players to earn an All-Star nod this season. New England drafted Buchanan with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 SuperDraft, and he's gone on to score eight goals over 50 matches for the Revolution.
