Tainted Bottled Water Still On Sale Despite Health Warnings
HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) — Bottled water tainted by dangerous chemicals is still being sold at stores throughout New England despite warnings from health officials.
New Hampshire and Massachusetts have recommended the public not drink water bottled by Spring Hill Farm Dairy in Haverhill, Massachusetts after the products were found to contain high levels of PFAS chemicals.
The man-made substances are used in nonstick and waterproof coatings and have been linked to cancer and other health problems.
The bottler says chemical levels in its water are within federal guidelines, but it has installed a new filtration system to eliminate PFAS chemicals.
The water is sold under in-store brands at Stop & Shop, Whole Foods and elsewhere.
The Boston Globe reports that Market Basket has pulled the products and CVS has halted new shipments, but other retailers continue to stock them.
