Synagogues On Alert In Mass. & Across U.S.
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - Synagogues in Massachusetts and across the United States were put on alert Friday afternoon.
Authorities intercepted an explosive device bound for a Chicago-area Jewish institution aboard a cargo jet triggering a worldwide alert and fears that al-Qaida was attempting to carry out fresh terror attacks.
In response, the Jewish Emergency Management System released a statement urging Jewish organizations to be on the lookout for the delivery of any large packages, especially ones that contain printers, printer cartridges, cell phones or timers.
Although it officials say it appears the Chicago area may be the focus of the incidents, all Jewish organizations in the country are being advised to be on alert.
JEMS tells organizations that receive a suspicious package they should not open it, they should evacuate the area and call 911 immediately.
