Two Men Face Charges In Puppy Deaths

REVERE (CBS) – Two men are facing charges for allegedly killing two puppies and leaving them in a trash bag.

Jason Gentry, 34, of Swampscott, was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of malicious killing of an animal.

Prosecutors say Gentry and Dominick Donovan, of Long Beach, NY, killed dogs they were breeding and training. The dogs were allegedly bred to be aggressive, and if they didn't make the cut, they were hanged.

Police began investigating Gentry after an incident in November 2014 when two puppies were found dead inside a trash bag in Revere.

Police say the dogs were Donovan Pinschers, a breed Donovan himself is said to have created.

"Anybody who would hurt a puppy because it wasn't aggressive enough, there's something wrong," said Revere Police Chief Joseph Cafarelli. "There's a disconnect there somewhere."

Revere Police said the investigation is ongoing and added that "further action is forthcoming" against Gentry.

Gentry was arraigned in Chelsea District Court and released on $1,000 bail.

Animal rights activists were outside of the courthouse on Tuesday.

They followed Gentry as he left the area and chanted after him.

Animal rights advocates who say they knew Gentry from his work at a Salem kennel, chanted "animals' lives matter," after he posted $1,000 bail. "He deserves to ba jailed," said Lorelei Stathopoulos. "He's a scumbag is what he is."

At one point, he responded with an obscene gesture.

Donovan was arrested Tuesday and faces arraignment at a later date.
