SUV Crashes Into Craft Beer Cellar In Braintree

BRAINTREE (CBS) - Kay Lorenz can't believe she walked away from a horrific crash without a scratch after an SUV came barreling through the front entrance of her Craft Beer Cellar store on Commercial Street in Braintree.

"I couldn't stop crying I was terrified," Kay said. Kay says she'd just opened up and was standing behind the register when a Ford Escape came crashing through, first hitting a parked car and then into the store.

Fortunately no one was hurt including the driver.

"Amazingly no one was hurt and the driver of the car was able to get out totally uninjured but everyone was shaken up," Kay said.

The driver, who did not want to be interviewed, said his gas pedal got stuck and the car kept accelerating.

"Police were saying he was going about 80 to 100 mph. He had gone through a couple red lights honking his horn letting people know 'I can't stop,'" Kay said.

Work crews spent the day cleaning up and boarding up at the store. Kay says they just celebrated their third year anniversary and this is their busy time of year. "We will be back at it as soon as we can. The holidays are coming so we want to get people going," Kay said.

She also felt sorry for the driver who was very scared. "He was apologizing and I said I felt bad for him. He says 'I'm so sorry,'" Kay said.

Police are still investigating the crash.
