SUV Barrels Through Busy Braintree Intersection, Gets Airborne
BRAINTREE (CBS) – A busy intersection in Braintree became the scene of an unbelievable crash Thursday.
It was at lunchtime, and the Granite Street intersection was packed with cars and the parking lots were bustling with people.
An SUV barreled down the street, hit a curb and then launched into the air over the top of a van.
WBZ-TV's Jonathan Elias reports
"A Dodge Durango came flying over the top of me," explains the stunned driver of the van.
The driver of the SUV was trapped when it landed upside down.
He was talking to rescuers when they managed to pull him out of the mangled wreck.
Witnesses couldn't believe their eyes.
A woman who saw the crash says the driver was, "probably going about 90 miles an hour" when he hit a telephone pole, then a curb and then flipped over on top of some trees.
The crash remains under investigation. It's not clear if the driver will face any criminal charges.
The driver of the van that the SUV flew over says it felt like a scene from a movie. "I should go buy a lottery ticket," he says.
