Suspected Wedding Limousine Carjacker Caught

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Police say they have found the thief who carjacked a limousine during a wedding in Dorchester Saturday.

Officers arrested 45-year-old Joseph Ghella of South Boston late Tuesday night on several outstanding warrants.

They say he had just broken into an apartment on Orton Marotta Way. He was found inside and captured.

Investigators say Ghella had just broken into a home on Howes Street in Dorchester Saturday afternoon when he ran into a limousine, which was parked outside Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church on Columbia Road.

"The suspect opened the door to the car, threw two bags into the car and demanded that the victim "start driving!" The victim initially refused to do the suspect's bidding and a struggle ensued," Boston Police said in a statement.

"During this struggle the victim was punched several times and was eventually thrown out of the limousine. After forcing the victim/driver out of the car, the suspect went on to order several members of the bridal party who were in the back of the limousine out of the car."

Police say Ghella drove off in the limo, but crashed into a mail truck and eventually abandoned it in South Boston.

A replacement limousine was brought in for the wedding party.
