Suspect In Woburn Officer Shooting May Be Arraigned Monday
WOBURN (CBS) - The only man under arrest in the shooting of a Woburn police officer could face a judge as soon as Monday morning.
Antonio Matos of Roxbury remains hospitalized after the shooting. Police are hoping the 25-year-old will lead them to two other suspects who are still on the run.
Sunday night, the city of Woburn held a vigil in remembrance of the terror attacks of Sept. 11 and for Officer Robert DeNapoli, who was shot during a botched robbery at a jewelry store last Tuesday.
WBZ-TV's Jim Smith reports.
Over the weekend, Officer DeNapoli stopped by the Greater Boston Police League fall softball tournament at Library Field on crutches.
Woburn's police chief said it was a real morale booster for everyone to see the wounded officer up and about.
"It was great to see Officer DeNapoli there. I think it did well for him as well as our boys, our men that were playing there. He's gonna be OK. It's gonna take some time, but he's gonna be fine as we are in our department," said Chief Richard Kelley of the Woburn Police Department.
Matos, meanwhile, faces two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of armed robbery. He is still listed in serious condition at Lahey Clinic, so it's not known if the arraignment can take place yet.
