Survey: Boston Rated Third-Best City For Recent College Grads
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston has been ranked number three on the top ten list of the best cities for recent college graduates, according to CareerBuilder.com.
Although Boston landed at number three on the list, Boston had the second highest average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the top ten cities, at $1,625.
Some cities are more conducive to finding a job than others for new college grads.
CareerBuilder ranked the cities based on the highest concentration of young adults; the inventory of jobs in the cities that required less than one year of experience and the average cost of rent for a one-bedroom apartment.
Chicago-based CareerBuilder notes that Hartford-New Haven is the best city for recent college grads, where the average rent is $1,047.
Hartford is followed by Cleveland ($695); Boston; Denver ($994) and Minneapolis ($941).
The next five cities are San Francisco ($1,560); Washington, D.C. ($1,679); Philadelphia ($1,068); Atlanta ($813) and St. Louis ($826).
CareerBuilder created the list along with Apartments.com and CareerRookie.com.
Lisa van der Pool of the Boston Business Journal reports
"There are almost three times as many renters moving for new job opportunities this year than in 2010, according to our annual moving survey," said Tammy Kotula, public relations and promotions manager, Apartments.com, in a statement.
"This tells us that the economy is improving, but people are relocating as a result. Because this adds more pressure on new grads to find the right place at the right price, we issued our list as a resource to help them make informed decisions on the best places to live based on job availability and cost of living."
