Survey: 62% Lose Sleep Over Money Problems
BOSTON (CBS) -- Money worries are keeping most Americans up at night, according to a new survey.
The report from CreditCards.com finds that 62 percent of people in the country are losing sleep over at least one financial problem.
Matt Schultz of CreditCards.com says it's not the little things that are preventing some shuteye.
"Retirement is the biggest worry. . . but worries about education expenses are growing like mad," he said. "Paying for school could soon be America's biggest financial worry."
The more money you make, the better you sleep, according to the survey. Those earning $75,000 or more a year are the least likely across the board to fret about finances.
Schultz says the key to sleeping better might be as simple as making a budget or cutting a few costs.
"People feel powerless but they don't quite understand that they can take a little bit of control by taking some small actions," he said. "That sort of thing might not change your life financially, but it might be able to buy you a couple of night's sleep."
The most recent survey actually shows improvement from polling done in 2009, which found that financial woes cost 69 percent of Americans sleep.
"They say that money can't buy you love or happiness, but our survey seems to show it can buy you a better night's sleep," Schultz said.
