Super Bowl Blog: Calm Before The Storm
INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) - It finally hit me Saturday afternoon that I have the privilege of going to the Super Bowl.
The Patriots and Giants are just a day away from Super Bowl XLVI, and Indianapolis is buzzing like a swarm of angry hornets.
Patriots fans are all checked in and most of them are extremely confident their team will be the ones celebrating when the confetti falls late tomorrow night, rather than walking out of it with their heads down like four years ago.
Another thing that has changed in addition to mass of Patriot fans is the weather; it's freezing here. Took a walk outside the hotel in the morning, with the temp a brisk 36 degrees. It was also fairly windy, as the Bridgestone inflatable football outside the hotel was on its side.
It's pretty gloomy here, with the grey sky spitting every now and then. The cold air and drizzle actually felt pretty good this morning though, serving as my morning cup of coffee.
For the afternoon though, I went with the real thing.
The "Super" hospitality continues, and is being brought to another level. I woke up to a nice note from Kaiti, a six-year-old from Rising Sun, Indiana, under my door. Everyone in our hotel got one from a Hoosier Kid, showing off their Hoosier Hospitality.
Also, after locking myself out of my room (it was bound to happen eventually, surprised it took this long), I have to thank Matt from the Hilton staff for keeping me company as we waited for a master-key. Yes, he is a Colts fan (originally from Ohio), but he thinks the Pats will win tomorrow.
Super Bowl Sunday is going to be crazy. We are not quite sure when everyone is heading over to the stadium, but it's going to be early. I might be in Lucas Oil for 18 hours tomorrow. But no complaints here.
Just to be safe, I started to take care of all the little things I need to do before heading home. Got some souvenirs for the family (my father-in-law is a Jets fan and asked for something with no Pats or Giants logos on it... boy is he in for a surprise!) and started to pack some things up. It's kind of sad that we are all leaving soon, as the week has gone by pretty quick (I didn't feel that way Wednesday, but now I'm just used to the schedule).
