Sunny & Warmer Weekend...Then Clouds/Showers Return
You really can not say enough about this weekend. It will be about a good as weather can possibly be. Unlimited sunshine, low humidity, light winds, cooler sea breezes...just perfect. For those missing the summer warmth...even that will be in place as temps will warm through the weekend. With high pressure sitting over us today, temps will climb into the 70's and lwr 80's inland. Light east winds will keep temps in the 60's at the immediate beaches. The sea breeze will not penetrate more than a mile or two inland...so once away from the water...expect a warmer day. I can't stress enough the power of the sun this time of year...even if it is mid May. Without a cloud in the sky, we will have 100% of the sun..this increases the risk of sun burn greatly. Not a bad idea to slap on the sunscreen before heading out to enjoy the day.

Sunday will be even warmer in land as warmer air will shift from the Great Lakes into New England thanks to clockwise rotation of air around the high as it pulls off the coast. Temps on Sunday will feel like a surge of summer with many areas climbing into the Lwr-mid 80's away from the coast. Light onshore winds from the SE will again keep it cooler at the coast with wind off the 50-55 degree water...but even at the beach temps will climb to 70-75 degrees. Watch for ocean swell to be building off the coast through the weekend into next week. With more wave action comes the increased risk of rip currents especially at out south facing coast lines.
As the high pulls off the coast, the door will be open for a slow moving area of low pressure currently stalled off the Carolinas to accelerate up the coast later Monday into early Tuesday with a period of rain and showers. Cooler onshore winds with clouds and developing showers will cool temps back down into the 60's Monday. A period of heavier rain is possible later Monday into Monday night. This low is like a mini tropical storm with winds gusting over 35 mph on the outer banks. As it approaches, higher surf at our beaches inot Tuesday,
As the low lifts out Tuesday, rain or showers will begin to taper early, but abundant low clouds will remain. Temps will begin to warm into the Lwr70's with a few breaks possible. A cold front will begin to push through New England late Tuesday into Wednesday which may trigger a few more showers or a thunderstorm. Temps will be warming into the 70's inland by midweek but remain cooler at the coast. It does not look very wet through the midweek with on and off showers possible, but will will have to watch the progression of an upper low south of New England in the mid-atlantic through the midweek.
The GFS has upper level ridging returning for the end of the week with increasing sunshine and warming temps into the 80's heading into the Memorial day weekend. This looks great and certainly something we are hoping for. The Euro, Canadian, and a few other models have a more unsettled look to the end of the week with the upper low just close enough to spin in clouds, sporadic showers and cooler temps. So once past Wednesday the confidence in the forecast is low for now. Hoping for a bit more resolution and information in the coming runs for the end of the week out look. I leaned optimistic for now...why not...considering the pattern we are in...Beautiful weekends and unsettled midweeks. Let's keep it going!
