Summer Returns For Weekend
After two fall-like days, we are all looking forward to a return of summer-like weather for the weekend. This Friday is no good at all. The heaviest of the rain is long gone, but there is still plenty of leftover light rain and drizzle locked out there. Our wave on a front is off the coast of the Cape providing a steady breeze from the north, while most areas inland have light winds under cool damp conditions. Highs will mostly be in the 60's and Lwr 70's inland at the most today. Not exactly the kind of Friday you want at the end of July. It will likely end up a bit warmer than yesterday. Winds will be shifting to the WNW as the low pulls away and into the Gulf of ME this afternoon, which should help the scattered light showers begin to taper off a bit. Sunshine is out once you cross the border into New York. As the low pulls away, the clearing line will begin to work into western New England where temps will likely spike into the 70's later in the day.
Tonight will be dry with clouds clearing from west to east during the late evening. Weak ridging and high pressure builds in for Saturday with mostly sunny skies, light SSW winds and temps back into the mid 80's. It will suddenly be summer and the beaches should be filled once again. Watch for a lingering swell at the eastern facing beaches. Surf will be up, but with the waves will come the risk of rip currents.
The second half of the weekend will not be quite as nice as Saturday. A big upper low will be digging into the Great Lakes. This will once again steer a SW flow into the Northeast. This is a risk of a few early showers at the coast Sunday. Hard to completely pinpoint that. Otherwise, clouds will be on the increase Sunday with more of a SSE wind direction. A cold front will be approaching later in the day which should trigger some scattered late day showers or a few thunderstorms. The best chance of this will be in western New England, so eastern MA may squeeze out another decent day, despite the increased clouds. Scattered showers will continue on and off through Sunday Night into Monday as the front will make slow progress eastward thanks the upper low sitting just to our NW in Canada with STILL a SW flow up the east coast. Lingering showers into Monday is likely with temps in the 70's along with the clouds.
High pressure follows in behind the front and the upper low finally pulls away. Increasing sunshine, lowering humidity and seasonal temps near 80-85 degrees.
