Sudbury Residents Warned After Black Bear Spotted In Town

SUDBURY (CBS) -- Sudbury police are warning residents to be on alert after a black bear was spotted in the area of Powder Mill Road.

Police say the bear was likely the same one that a resident in Acton spotted the day before.

Several schools in Acton were forced to shelter in place on Wednesday following the sighting. The bear was found in the area of Route 2 near several school buildings. Acton Police and officers from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection responded to the area, but were not able to capture the bear.

There have been no reports of property damage and the bear did not approach any students or residents.

Sudbury police are asking residents to secure their trash bins and bring in their bird feeders so they don't attract the bear.
