Charges In Rakes Death
According to investigators, Camuti arranged a meeting with Rakes at the Waltham McDonalds on the premise that they would be discussing an investment deal. There, he allegedly laced Rakes' iced coffee with cyanide before driving him around for several hours until he died.
Rakes' body was found the next day in the woods in Lincoln.
Rakes, the former South Boston liquor store owner who claimed James "Whitey" Bulger muscled him out of business years ago, had been scheduled to testify in Bulger's trial.
However, prosecutors said they don't believe his death was connected.
Officials say Camuti and Rakes had been involved in a number of business deals over the years.
Camuti is charged with attempted murder, misleading police, and unlawful disposition of human remains.
Charges could be upgraded when autopsy results are returned.
