The study by Northeastern University shows just 26 percent of teens had jobs last summer.

By early this year, the average rate dropped to 25.7 percent.
Shauna Rigaud of the South End/Lower Roxbury Youth Workers' Alliance is not surprised by the figures. She said state and city funding for youth jobs have both significantly dropped.
"I think the city has tried to sort of supplement what money was lost in time to get private corporations involved, but the funding numbers aren't nearly what they were in years past," said Rigaud.
