Strong Storms Pop Up, Cause Damage Across Massachusetts
DUXBURY (CBS) -- Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, Bristol, and Plymouth counties were under storm warnings Saturday afternoon, and those storms didn't pass through without leaving some damage.
More than 2,000 people were left without power in Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
Logan Airport also felt the effects of the storms, with more than 300 flights delayed and 26 canceled, according to FlightAware.
"You guys had a thunderstorm here, so we had to circle around Springfield for half an hour," said traveler Bruce Henderson
Some travelers were philosophical about the delays.
"It was pretty normal, I didn't think anything of it, and then it started really rolling in. I said, 'Oh man, it's coming,' so I just had to deal with it. It's just another part of travel and things like that," said Jason Gonsalves, of Boston.
There were also reports of trees down on Elm Street in Cambridge and Keene Street in Duxbury. A tree came down on a house in Duxbury after a burst of heavy rain Saturday morning.
Flooding was reported in Somerville, with Mayor Joseph Curtatone shooting video of cars slowly plowing through waterlogged roads. There was also flooding on Moore Street in Winthrop, Salem Street in Malden, and Route 1 in Revere.
