Stoughton Man Charged With Making Bomb Threats To Schools
NORWOOD (CBS) -- Norwood police say a 24-year-old Stoughton man has been charged with making multiple emailed bomb threats to schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the past several months.
Anthony Rae was arrested Friday by Norwood and Stoughton detectives. He was booked in Norwood, according to the Norwood police Facebook page.
Rae was arraigned at Dedham District Court and is being held on $25,000 cash bail. It's unclear when he will appear in court again.
On October 9, 2014, Norwood Public Schools received an emailed bomb threat before schools opened for the day that warned of bombs at all schools in the district. Police and school administrators searched the schools and kept parents informed about what happened.
On March 26, ITT Technical Institute on Boston-Providence Highway received an emailed bomb threat. Officers investigate the report, and school staff decided to cancel classes for that night.
A Norwood detective was called to the scene and began investigating the origin of the email, with help from a Walpole police detective of the Computer Crime Unit of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council. The FBI was also called in to help with the investigation.
On Sunday, ITT received a second emailed bomb threat. Police say there were similarities to the other two threatening emails.
Police received a search warrant on Tuesday, searched Rae's apartment and recovered multiple computers and electronic devices.
Police say a fourth bomb threat was received at a college in Rhode Island on Thursday. Officers in Rhode Island were informed by the FBI of the Norwood investigation. The email was traced to a computer in a community room at Rae's apartment complex.
Investigators allege that Rae took steps to electronically cover his tracks when he sent the first three bomb threats.
