Storm Damage In Scituate 'Overwhelming'
SCITUATE (CBS) -- The word most commonly used to describe the scene in Scituate these days is "overwhelming."
Even as the storm was still raging last Monday, people here were in contact with each other and putting together preliminary plans to help their neighbors.
Initially those plans centered on the two families with young children who lost their homes to fire on 7th Avenue, but everyone quickly realized the need for help extended to the dozens and dozens of other residents who lost so much in the blizzard and its aftermath.
WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports.
A Facebook page set up for the fire victims soon grew to include pleas for help from other families, along with pledges to assist from willing residents. Help has come in the form of cash, gift cards, clothes, toys, household items, and more.
Lifelong residents of the town say they are not at all surprised with how much everyone has stepped up to help. In fact, so many goods have been donated there appears to be a surplus right now, though organizers promise that everything donated will eventually make its way to people in need.
The town is even planning a fundraiser for later this month. If you would like to help the families affected, there are a few accounts that have been opened to accept gifts.
Monetary and Gift Card donations can be sent to:
