Stiemsma: Have The Celtics Finally Turned The Corner?
The Celtics take on the Magic tonight in Orlando for the second half of a home at home series. In their first game the Green beat the Magic easily, 87-56.
Celtics center Greg Stiemsma spoke with Toucher & Rich about the big win over Orlando, playing against Dwight Howard and playing in the NBA.
The Magic came to Boston with a record of 11-4 to face the 6-9 Celtics. Many thought the Magic would have no trouble putting the C's away, but the Green proved the doubters wrong by blowing Orlando out.
This win was the first over a marquee team for Boston, does the team feel like they have turned a corner?
"I feel like we've all kind of felt it coming. We knew our potential, we knew how well we can play and nobody really expected with kind of a short handed staff that night. At the same time we all have the same goal we all get in there and it felt good to play that way."
Stiemsma also talked about what it's like to play against a player like Dwight Howard.
"If you let him do what he wants to do he's unstoppable, so you got to do your work early, keep him out of the paint, be physical with him and be willing to give up a few fouls to limit his touches and put him at the free throw line."
Paul Pierce missed training camp this season due to injury and once he started playing he wasn't really himself. Now that he's had some time to get back into things is he finally starting to hit his stride?
"Absolutely, Paul plays at that pace of the game where when he's making shots he makes it look so easy and even in practice he's the first guy in the gym."
The guys also talked about the differences between playing overseas and the NBA. Also had his time in the NBA exceeded or met his expectations?
