Stevens 'Committed' To Celtics, Shoots Down Indiana Rumors
BOSTON (CBS) -- Fear not, Celtics fans. Brad Stevens says he isn't going anywhere.
Rumors of the Celtics head coach returning to the college ranks have swirled since he came to Boston in 2013, with a recent rumor saying he may take over for Tom Crean at Indiana University.
But Stevens, who is now in the second year of a six-year deal he signed with Boston, says his future is with the Celtics.
"I've committed to being here," Stevens told SB Nation's Paul Flannery last week. "I've already left a situation once and that was the hardest thing I've ever had to choose to do. This is something that as long as they want me to be here, this is what I want to be doing and I'm going to give it everything I've got. I know it's all specific to the rumor mills and the discussion of one spot. I think they've got a good coach who's done a helluva job. He doesn't deserve that speculation.
"I'm the head coach of the Boston Celtics. This is the job. This is where I am. This is what I want to do really well and I'm committed to being as good as I can every single day for the Celtics."
Indiana is 9-2 and owns a pair of wins over ranked teams this season. Still, some fans started a "Fire Crean" movement after they went 17-15 and missed the NCAA Tournament last season, and are hoping that the former Butler head coach -- and Indiana native -- will be on the bench for the Hoosiers next season.
But it doesn't sound like Stevens (who owns a 35-72 record in his NBA career) has much interest in leaving the Celtics, even as they begin the long road towards rebuilding the franchise.
