Red Sox's Wright Sends Blue Jays' Colabello Bottle Of Booze After Beaning Him In The Helmet [VIDEO]

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Blue Jays first baseman Chris Colabello might have been wondering what Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright had against him. It was a scary sight on Sunday when Wright hit Colabello in the helmet with his "secondary" pitch, an 87 mph fastball. But Wright went out of his way to let Colabello know that the beanball was not intentional.

Before Monday's annual 11 a.m. Patriots Day game, Colabello told reporters that Wright sent a large, apparently expensive bottle of liquor to his locker, as a token of apologizing for hitting him a day earlier.

"He didn't have to ... I'm sure that's not cheap, too," said Colabello, who knew all along that the HBP was an accident and Wright did not need to apologize at all.

Wright, however, admitted the gesture was more about his own peace of mind.

"I know it's not a necessary thing," said Wright. "The gift was more for me than it was for him to kind of ease it for myself for what happened."

Wright was visibly shaken by the pitch and spoke to Colabello as he took first base right after it happened. Needless to say, he will be more careful when pitching inside in the future. He'll also need to watch out for guys leaning into pitches to get free booze.

Imagine if Kevin Youkilis was still around? Wright would stock his entire liquor cabinet.
