Sterling Woman Bound, Threatened With Knife During Home Invasion
STERLING (CBS) -- A 70-year-old woman told police she was bound, threatened with a knife, and had her car stolen during a home invasion Tuesday morning.
Sterling Police said they got a call shortly after 10 a.m. that the incident had taken place at a home on Stephanie Anne Lane.
The woman told police three masked men wearing all black came into her home, tied her up with tape, and threatened her with a knife.
She complied with the men, who said they did not want to hurt her, and asked her where her safe was.
"They did hold a knife to her throat, demanding money and the location of a safe, there was no safe," said Sterling Police Chief Gary Chamberland.
The victim said they stole approximately $1,000 in cash.
The woman was not injured.
The men left in the woman's 2004 Cadillac DeVille with a Massachusetts registration of 641-WKM. The car was located Tuesday afternoon, on Boutelle Road in Sterling.
Once the men left, the woman was able to free herself and call 911.
Police believe the robbery to have been targeted, and think the men came in through an unlocked door.
The crime has rattled the quiet neighborhood. "Unnerving, very unnerving," said neighbor Kim White. "It's supposed to be our safe neighborhood, things like that are not supposed to happen."
State Police are helping with the investigation, as Sterling Police have only one detective team.
