State Trooper, Tow Truck Driver Hit By SUV On I-95 In Wakefield
WAKEFIELD (CBS) – A Massachusetts State Trooper and a tow truck driver were hit by an SUV on Route 95 in Wakefield early Tuesday morning.
It happened in the northbound lanes just after 6 a.m. near exit 40 (Route 129).
According to State Police, the trooper and the tow truck driver had stopped to help the driver of a Toyota Corolla that had just crashed on the icy road. Moments later, a Honda Pilot hit the trooper and the tow truck driver, who were both outside of their vehicles.
"The Trooper who was struck was able to call in the crash himself on his radio, reporting he and the tow driver needed medical assistance," State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement.
Both were taken to Lahey Hospital in Burlington where they were treated for minor injuries. The drivers of the Honda and the Toyota were both taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for precautionary exams and released.
The Honda driver, a 21-year-old man from Chelsea, was cited for "failure to take care in stopping."
No names were released. No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
