State Trooper Shooting
State police commander Col. Timothy Alben said a concerned woman called Milton police just before 8 a.m. Friday to report the erratic driver on Route 28 in Quincy.
Milton police transferred the call to state police, who sent a 25-year veteran.
Alben says the trooper and the man, later identified as 41-year-old Wilfredo Justiniano, Jr . of New Bedford, were involved in a "violent confrontation" in which Justiniano was shot. Alben did not say whether he was armed.
Justiniano was rushed to nearby Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton where he died.
The trooper's name has not been released.
State police and the Norfolk district attorney's office are investigating.
Justiniano was on his way to Roslindale to visit his father, family members say. They also said he had no police record.
