State Trooper Delivers Baby, Calls It 'Highlight Of Career'
SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) - A state trooper said he had the "highlight of his career" over the weekend.
Trooper Scott Walker helped a Plainville mother give birth in the back seat of her car Sunday at the Furnance Brook Parkway exit off the Expressway.
The woman and her husband were rushing to Brigham & Women's Hospital around 2:30 a.m. when they realized they were not going to make it, so they called state police.
Walker told reporters Monday it all happened pretty quickly.

"We got mom out of the car, put her in the back seat, and about 15 seconds later we had a baby girl," he said.
"I actually caught her as she came out. That's how quick she came out."
Mother and baby are doing fine. The family wishes to remain anonymous. The baby's father released a brief statement Monday afternoon to WBZ-TV.
"The coordination and competence and decisive action of the the Massachusetts State Police turned a very scary situation into a blessing. We can't thank the Mass. state troopers enough and the dispatchers as well as the EMTs and doctors and nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital for their help and support for the successful birth of our health daughter."
Trooper Walker had plenty of praise for the unidentified mom.

"She was absolutely spectacular. It was her second kid, so she knew what she was doing. She was calm as could be and I think I was a little bit more nervous than she was."
He called it the best thing that's happened during his career as a trooper.
"In this job, we see people at their worst and this is one experience where you're able to see something like a miracle happen," he said.
Ironically, the trooper who helped Walker and the mother at the scene Sunday, Trooper Christopher St. Ives, was born in an elevator.
