State Says Weekend Cape Cod Train To Be Permanent
BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — After a successful test run this year, seasonal weekend passenger train service between Boston and Cape Cod will become a permanent fixture.
Gov. Deval Patrick announced on Tuesday that the CapeFLYER will return next year and in future years between Memorial Day and Columbus Day, with an extra stop being added in Wareham. And the governor also told the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce that state transportation officials will study the feasibility of year-round weekend service on the rail line that runs between South Station to Hyannis.
State officials say more than 16,500 passengers rode the CapeFLYER this season and fare revenue totaled nearly $300,000.
It was the first commuter rail service to Cape Cod in 25 years.
