State Police Fire Trooper Who Drove Wrong Way On Memorial Drive
BOSTON (CBS) – A Massachusetts state trooper who allegedly drove the wrong way down Memorial Drive in Cambridge two months ago has been fired.
According to State Police, Adam Paicos, 29, was off-duty on April 3 when two fellow troopers spotted him driving the wrong way down the road.
When the troopers began to follow him, Paicos pulled into a parking lot and got out of his vehicle. He identified himself to the troopers as a member of the State Police, but he was not placed under arrest.
The incident was first reported by WBZ-TV, which broke the story last week.
In a statement announcing Paicos' termination Wednesday afternoon, State Police spokesman David Procopio said there was also an incident a month later.
"On a date in May, Paicos was observed by a senior command officer engaged in further conduct unbecoming a state trooper, also while off-duty. Paicos was still on probationary employment status when the incidents occurred. The internal investigation into the Memorial Drive incident is ongoing."
Paicos was just sworn into the State Police in March.
He was one of two troopers terminated Tuesday.
Trooper David Lemar was fired on charges of unbecoming conduct, neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, use of department equipment for non-job related purposes and lack of truthfulness, Procopio said.
"State Police began an internal investigation into Lemar's actions in 2010 after state, federal, and local authorities investigated accusations of wrongdoing at spas in southeastern Massachusetts. Lemar has been suspended without pay since that time. Lemar is not presently charged criminally," Procopio said in his statement.
No further details were available.
