State of the UFC Champs
Want to know what is in store for all of the current UFC Champions? Well look no further. Here is a snap shot at when each of the division kingpins will be back in action and who their opponent will be. All 5 of these fighters were a top our most recent Boston Throwdown Rankings in their respective weight classes. But when will you see them again?
Lightweight Champ: Frankie Edgar
Last fight: UFC 118; defeated B.J. Penn by unanimous decision to defend his title.
Next fight: TBA possibly UFC 124, 125, or early 2011 vs. Gray Maynard.
Maynard is the only fighter to beat Edgar in his career. Maynard defeated Kenny Florian in a #1 contender bout at UFC 118 in Boston.
Welterweight Champ: Georges St. Pierre
Last fight: UFC 111; defeated Dan Hardy to defend his title.
Next fight: UFC 124 on December 11, 2010 vs. Josh Koscheck.
GSP is coaching Season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter against Koscheck. The two met in 2007 at UFC 74 where St. Pierre won by unanimous decision, it was the start of his current 7 fight win streak. If GSP beats Koscheck, Jake Shields is a possibility after joining the UFC, or perhaps what the fans really want and that is St. Pierre vs. this next guy...
Middleweight Champ: Anderson Silva
Last fight: UFC 117; defeated Chael Sonnen by submission to defend his title.
Next fight: UFC 125 on January 1, 2011 vs. Vitor Belfort.
Silva has 7 straight title defenses and 12 victories in a row in the UFC, both organization records. In fact he is 12-0 in the UFC. He was scheduled for a rematch vs. Sonnen, but Chael tested positive for PEDs thus Belfort was promoted from a #1 contender bout vs. Yushin Okami to a title fight on New Year's Day vs. Anderson Silva.
Light Heavyweight Champ: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Last fight: UFC 113; defeated Lyoto Machida by KO to win title.
Next fight: TBA, likely spring 2011 vs. Rashad Evans.
Shogun earned an immediate rematch vs. Machida after a controversial decision win for Lyoto. Rua underwent knee surgery, forcing him out of action until at least early 2011, when he returns former champ Rashad Evans will be waiting.
Heavyweight Champ: Brock Lesnar
Last fight: UFC 116; defeated Shane Carwin by submission to defend his title.
Next fight: UFC 121 on October 23, 2010 vs. Cain Velasquez.
This is the next belt on the line in the UFC. Lesnar vs. Velasquez headlines a great card which is now less than a month away. If Lesnar beats Cain, a trilogy fight vs. Frank Mir could be in the works after the only fighter to defeat Lesnar recently knocked out Mirko Cro Cop.
There are the UFC Champs. Who will be the first to lose? Who will keep their belt the longest?
