State, Local Police Respond to Murdered NYC Officers

BOSTON (CBS) -- State Police along with local police departments across Massachusetts are expressing their sympathy for two New York City police officers who were shot and killed Saturday while sitting in their patrol car.

Boston Police Department advised their officers to remain aware of their surroundings in light of the shootings.

"Any time there is an incident involving violence against a police officer in any part of the country, that information is shared with Boston Police officers, and it is used as an opportunity to advise  officers to use extra caution and vigilance," a spokesperson for Boston Police told WBZ-TV in a written statement.

Massachusetts State Police expressed their condolences Saturday on Twitter, saying the department is "heartbroken."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's families, friends and coworkers," State Police tweeted.

Other local departments tweeted similar sentiments.
