Start Of Summer 2013 All About Weather Extremes
BOSTON (CBS) -- This has been one heck of a start to summer.
With 25 days in the books, summer 2013 has already seen its share of weather extremes.

We kicked off this summer with a 3 day heatwave from June 23-25th. Just a few days later, we endured a 5 day heatwave spanning from July 3-7th. And now, one week later, we have begun what is likely to be the longest, hottest stretch thus far as many towns will top 90 degrees for 7 straight days!
Check: Latest Conditions
This would be the longest heatwave since August of 2002.
Doing some quick math, that means that we will have had 15 days of 90+ in the first 30 days of summer…Yikes! We average just 14 days over 90 in an entire summer, so this is certainly far from normal.
What you see (or feel) is basically what you get each and every day this week…We will start each morning in the 70s and quickly, by 8 to 9 a.m. temperatures will rise into the 80s.
Many towns will hit 90 between 10 a.m. and Noon. Heat advisories will likely be posted each day for heat index values near or slightly over 100 degrees in the afternoon.

Peak temperatures typically occur between 2 to 4 p.m., combine that with dewpoints near or above 70 and it is downright dangerous to be outdoors.
This will repeat itself over and over again this week with no real relief from the heat or humidity other than at the immediate coastline where some localized seabreezes will help ease the pain.
So when do we catch a break?
Saturday should be the final day of this brutal stretch…Late in the day or perhaps in the evening on Saturday, a cold front will bring a merciful end to this third heatwave of summer.
By Sunday and Monday temperatures will be back to near or slightly below normal, and the longer range outlook into next week is for more pleasant or normal summer temperatures.
We remind you not to take this heat lightly.
Seek out air conditioned areas during the peak hours of the heat. If you have to be outdoors, be sure to stay hydrated and look for shade. Also check on your neighbor, the elderly and your pets.
They don't call them the "dog days" of summer for nothing!
