Man Charged In Stabbing Of South Hadley Police Officer At Dunkin' Donuts
SOUTH HADLEY (CBS) -- A Holyoke man is facing multiple charges, including armed assault with intent to murder, after he allegedly stabbed a South Hadley police officer Friday night at a Dunkin' Donuts.
Jeffrey Torres, 29, has also been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He allegedly stabbed the officer in the neck with a knife when he responded to the coffee shop on Newton Street around 6 p.m. on a report of a disturbance.
The officer, who hasn't been identified, fired his gun three times, hitting Torres twice, investigators say.
Torres and the officer were rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where the officer was treated and released, according to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office. Torres underwent surgery and remains in the hospital, but officials say he is expected to survive.
Depending on his condition, Torres will likely be arraigned in either the medical center or Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.
