Springfield Man Accused Of Motor Vehicle Homicide In Crash That Killed His Infant
EASTHAMPTON (AP) — Western Massachusetts authorities have identified a man and girl killed in a head-on crash in Easthampton that injured three other people, and police have arrested a man accused of causing the crash.
The Northwestern District Attorney's Office reported 71-year-old Charles Hoffman of Easthampton and a 3-year-old girl died in Saturday afternoon's crash.
Hoffman's pickup was struck by an oncoming van that crossed the center line while being driven by 32-year-old Mauricio Velasquez of Springfield, officials said.
The girl who died was Velasquez's daughter, officials said. A woman riding with Hoffman and a second passenger in Velasquez's van were seriously injured.
Velasquez also was injured. He was charged with motor vehicle homicide, drunken driving and other crimes, officials said.
Velasquez was detained on $50,000 bail. It was not clear Sunday whether he had a lawyer.
