Spring Training Blog: John Farrell Set To Speak To Entire Team For First Time
FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBS) -- A quiet day so far here in Fort Myers. No rain yet, but we are expecting showers again. The fields are soaking wet, but the Sox are scheduled to try to work out for the first time as a full squad.
The Sox held their annual team meeting this morning. John Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino introduced themselves and were expected to say a few words. But, the story here is that John Farrell will formally speak to his entire team for the first time. Thursday, he said he has two rules for his team: Be on time and be professional.
I talked to Clay Buchholz this morning and he said his hamstring is coming along nicely and the strain he suffered on Tuesday is not going to be much of a hindrance to getting ready down here.
Daniel Nava is hoping to land a fourth or fifth outfield spot. He has proven when healthy that he can hit on the big league level. He's also a guy that the Sox like as far as OBP is concerned. Nava is also going to play first base down here to add to his versatility.
The Jeff Passan Toradol story is getting a little play down here. As far as the people I've talked in and around the club, they all look at it this way: A player will do whatever he can legally to get out and play. And, the player will try to feel as good as possible. The Yahoo! story seems to be more centered around former trainer/physical therapist Mike Reinold. The concern is that players were getting shots from trainers or assistants, which is where legalities and ethics come into play.

10:42 a.m.: Funny moment as the first full squad workout got under way here in Fort Myers. As he said he would, John Farrell had his players working on base running right out of the chute.
As the players were running from second to home, legendary (and one and only) coach/BP pitcher/etc. Ino Guerrero was waving them home from the third base coaching box. Except ... he was waving them counter-clockwise instead of clockwise. And, that was pointed out by Dustin Pedroia as all the players laughed.
Thus, the Sox are well on their way to becoming the best third-to-second team in all of Major League Baseball.
