Spring is in the Air, Again...

We climbed out of the "deep" freeze today with a high of 44 degrees, 6 degrees above where we should be.  Temps will continue to warm tomorrow and beyond as weak southerly flow continues to transport in milder than normal temps.  There is a lobe of moisture producing light snow and rain in PA and NY States right now but the air over the Commonwealth is bone dry...dewpoints in the 5-15 degree range, practically desert like.  Therefore, most if not all of the moisture will dry up before hitting the ground later tonight...with that said, a few drops or flakes will be seen later tonight and early tomorrow morning.

Clouds will be on the increase Thursday out ahead of the next system, that one will have a little more support and will spread rain and snow into New England.  For Southern New England, per usual, we are talking rain...mild southerly boundary layer winds will preclude any snow.  Some of the higher elevation in Worcester County and certainly Northern New England will see some snow.  The all snow zone will be limited as well by lack of phasing and therefore not much moisture so just a few inches for the ski resorts...better than nothing!  The system will depart first thing Friday morning and with clearing and downsloping winds temps should be the warmest of the week...near or even above 50!

Over the weekend we will be in cooldown mode with stiff WNW winds dropping temps from the mid 40s on Saturday to around 40 on Sunday.  There is also a chance that a larger Mid-Atlantic storm sneaks up the coast but once again it looks like a miss and the lack of phasing would be the culprit again.  We'll keep a close eye on it for now.

By the way, we are about 3 degrees off the pace for warmest February on record and after this Springlike week we will be back in the same breath as the record.  We would need a strong finish to the month to break it though.
