Spring is in the Air...

57...that was the high for the day and it occurred at 2:38PM.  Although it was so warm today, we didn't even come close to the record high which was 66 set back in 1997.  There is a weak storm system on the way for later tonight and with the mild air in place we are looking at just rain showers late tonight and tomorrow morning.  Wind will become gusty out of the NW by midday tomorrow and that will dry us out, clear us out and temporarily make us warm into the lower and middle 50s.

Friday continues to get more and more interesting...earlier this week we were looking at 60 degrees and thunderstorms...now we are looking at 40 degrees and cold rain!  The low pressure center will travel right over Southern New England instead of to our NW, this will cut the warm flow of air off before it can get to Southern New England.  In fact, early Friday morning, there are some signs of cold air damming (cold northerly drainage of air) from Canada into Northern New England and maybe even seeping into Northern MA.  This will allow for moisture from the next system on Friday morning to start falling as sleet pellets or even snowflakes NW of Boston especially in Northern New England.  Now, models continue to get colder and colder however, I'm very skeptical of the coldest solutions showing accumulating snow in the NW suburbs of Boston.  I just can't see how we are going to get cold enough considering how warm the air is preceding the storm...we will see but my gut feeling is that accumulating snow will be confined to Northern New England.  By the way, this is great new s for the ski resorts who are in line for around 6" of snow.

Following the storms departure late Friday, winds will howl out of the NW for Friday night and Saturday and temps will be near or even below 40 degrees for the weekend.  Both days will be dry however and Sunday looks to be the pick of the weekend with less wind and full late February sunshine.
